About the Conference

The Aspire Conference is the first part of the KCL Aspire. It will equip attendees with practical information about life at KCL and the intricacies of studying at a top Russel Group university. Students mention that they wished they knew more about the university prior to studying there; and students from an African and or Caribbean background wished they knew more about the spaces available to them prior to joining university. Hence, the aim is to ensure that aspiring KCL students have a network of people that they know going into university and introduce them to the ACS community from as early as possible.

Key Note Speaker: The keynote speaker will be focussing on the importance of having a diverse cohort of students, the importance of black excellence in academia and how KCL accommodates all of such. Furthermore, this talk will show that success at university is not limited, and hence, anyone who is academically gifted and is able to engage with the rigour of the course should be looking to apply.

Life at Kings: This section will see mini focus groups of no more than 10 students discussing life at King’s, and other Russel Group universities. Students will have the chance to ask questions, learn more about intricacies of studying at a top university, and what it takes to be successful there.

Panel: This will give the audience an overview of the different type of students here at KCL, and the range of degrees studied. The panellists will give the audience an insight in their university life, what it takes to be successful and challenges that they may have faced. Audience will have the chance to answer panellists questions.

Opportunities available: This session will dive into the different scholarships that are available to aspiring KCL students. They may range from the Dickson School of Law to the various ones available. Attendees will also have the chance to hear about Aspire25, the mentoring part of KCL Aspire and will receive priority screening when they apply.   In addition, they will also be told about the support received from the ACS once they join the society, and how it will help to pave a path for them in their future.
